Holistic Veterinary Medicine Internal Medicine Board Certified Radiologist

The Veterinary Emergency Center (VEC) was established in 1981 for the purpose of providing quality after-hours veterinary care to the Central Virginia region. In March of 2002, we expanded our services to 24 hours a day maintaining our commitment to provide state-of-the-art life saving services for both emergency and critical care. Board certified specialists in surgery, ophthalmology and dermatology joined our team to achieve our mission. CT scanning and ultrasound modalities were included shortly after, and in May of 2003 we began to offer Radioactive Iodine Therapy (I-131) for feline hyperthyroidism.

In January of 2006 the Veterinary Emergency Center joined forces with Veterinary Emergency Center South (VECS) (previously known as Animal Emergency Care). After five years of successful practice on their own, the southside location was ready to grow with the carytown office in providing more comprehensive, cooperative care for our patients and clients.

The VEC maintains the highest level of service to both you and your animal, without compromising the safety of the staff and quality of care to our patients. We have the privilege of being accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, which means that we are evaluated regularly to ensure that we comply with veterinary standards. This means that your pet is receiving the best possible care using the latest procedures and technologies.
VEC’s hospital staff consists of eight full time veterinarians and a large support team of licensed veterinary technicians, assistants and receptionists. They are all dedicated to providing exceptional, compassionate care for your special friend.

Our goal is to be a leader in veterinary emergency and critical care medicine in our community. To deliver the best 24 hour veterinary care available and to provide a humane and caring environment and strong continuity of care while affording dignity and respect to every client and pet.
