Holistic Veterinary
Medicine

The Veterinary Emergency Center is pleased to announce the arrival of our new program, Holistic Veterinary Medicine. We welcome Dr. Alyssa Thompson, D.V.M. who completed her acupuncture program through the Chi Institute, outside of Gainesville, Florida.

Dr. Thompson looks forward to practicing acupuncture, herbal remedies and other holistic treatment methods.

Appointments can be scheduled to occur on Wednesdays of any week. Make an appointment by having your regular veterinarian fax a referral form to the Veterinary Emergency Center on West Cary Street. Call anytime to schedule the specific appointment time and date.

As demand for the services Dr. Thompson provides increases, so too will her availability.

We look forward to continuing to assist you in providing more comprehensive care for your beloved pet at the Veterinary Emergency Center.

Dr. Alyssa A. Thompson completed her undergraduate studies at the College of William and Mary and went on to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) from the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. She began her career in emergency and critical care medicine locally and in Northern Virginia, joining the Veterinary Emergency Center in 1999. Dr. Thompson has a strong belief in integrating Western and Eastern methods of medicine to provide the best care for each individual patient. She is currently a student at the Chi Institute of traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine where she completed her course work in acupuncture and is actively pursuing certification in herbal remedies and tui-na (medical manipulation/massage). In the future, Dr. Thompson will be obtaining the skills necessary to provide chiropractics as part of her integrative therapies.

When not in the clinic, Dr. Thompson enjoys cooking, concerts, and entertaining with friends and family. She is renovating her Carytown row house, and enjoys the local businesses and events that the Carytown area affords. She also spends time riding her horses at their stable in Powhatan and enjoys the wonderful companionship of her menagerie of dogs, cats and guinea pigs.
